Singapore Lyric Opera presents, in association with Golden Village, CARMEN the second opera in the Paris Opera 2013 season.

Tickets will be on sale on Friday, 8 February for the performance on Thursday 28 February 7.15pm at GV Grand - Great World City. The performance is preceded by a short introduction by the Singapore Lyric Opera. Tickets are available from the GV website (www.gv.com.sg) or over the box office counter at GV Grand.

About the Production:

Performed in four acts, Carmen tells the story of the gypsy Carmen who seduces a young soldier Don Jose, in Seville Spain during the mid 19th century. Written by the French composer Georges Bizet, based on a novella of the same title by Prosper Merimee; the opera was first performed in Paris, on 3 March 1875. During the original run, Bizet died suddenly, and thus knew nothing of the opera's later celebrity. Nevertheless, what Bizet had brought to the stage was a deadly passion, violently revealed and crushed by the Spanish sun.

The new production by the Paris Opera was performed live at the Opéra Bastille on Thursday December 13, 2012. Conducted by Philippe Jordan, and Directed by Yves Beaunesne, this production of Carmen stars Austrian tenor Nikolai Schukoff as Don Jose, and Italian soprano Anna Caterina Antonacci in the title role of Carmen.

More about the Paris Opera 2013 Season:

Each immaculate production is recorded in front of a live audience, before undergoing professional sound and video post-production and encoding to bring the opera lover as close to the stage as possible without actually having to travel to Paris.

Each opera performance will be preceded by an Introduction by guest from the Singapore Lyrical Opera, with the objective of giving the audience a bit of background to the opera. Ballet performances will be introduced by a guest from The School of The Arts (SOTA) Dance Department.

Following the series, each performance is scheduled for the last Thursday of the month, subject to changes due to programming. Group bookings of 50 or more persons will also be welcomed. Members of the public are also welcome to join the mailing list by subscribing to parisopera@goldenvillage.com.sg to get updates and news about the Paris Opera performances.
